R - Winter

For those of us here in Australia Winter is almost upon us. Sometimes the word Winter leads to thoughts of cold, wet feet and the rain making your hair frizzy. Well I'm here to give you a little reminder of the things to love about winter.

1. Fashion wise we have coats, trenches, jackets, jeans, stocking, boots, scarves, gloves, long socks, trackies and jumpers. Who doesn't enjoy snuggling up in track pants, or getting dressed up in a cute jacket and boots!
2. Hot chocolates, Chai lattes, Coffee, just hot drinks in general. They give you warm feeling in your stomach and never fail to lift the spirits on a wet miserable day.
3. Rain dates. Just go for it, run in the rain and get soaking, then go back inside and team my first two dot points together - Trackies & a hot chocolate.

So when it comes down to it, Winter is actually an awesome three months. The clothes, the food and weather too. So don't dread its arrival, prep for it. Its a great excuse to go on a little shopping excursion. I think the wardrobe staples to survive the season are : a nice jacket, stockings (countless pairs), a pair of jeans, a scarf, a big granny jumper and some boots.

R - Spanish Moss Vintage

Spanish Moss is an amazing online boutique that specialises in vintage pieces! Its got clothes, shoes, swimwear, accessories; the lot. It also features a collection of independent designers works in the Shop New section of the site.
Spanish Moss also designs and produces a clothing line - American Gold - that is designed and made in California. Just to give you a little bit of an idea American Golds inspirations are: Indian summers, sleeping under the stars in Joshua Tree, collections of taxidermy and south western trinkets, roadside flea markets, listening to the Rolling Stone's "Moonlight Mile" on repeat, whiskey soaked nights in Nashville, musing over Marianne Faithful & Anita Pallenberg, sleeping past checkout in old motel rooms, first kisses, discovering Emmylou Harris for the first time, summer flings, wearing sequins in the daytime, humid summers spent lounging on wraparound porches, sleepovers, playing hooky, 4 pm purple thunder storms, re-reading Walt Whitman, living free, and making new best friends wherever you go.

R - Nihonjins!!!

Okay the Japanese have got to be some of the cutest people ever and they have some rather fabulous fashion styles. I thought Id make a list of a few of the more notable ones. Here goes:
1. They wear t-shirts that say things in english that make absolutely no sense. Its so funny reading them all but unfortunately for us we cant copy this little bit of cute as it wouldn't be cute on us. People would just think you're kinda stupid.
2. Their range of high socks and stockings is rather fabbity fab. They have shops just devoted to them (do we have them in Australia, I've never seen one so I thought it was pretty cool) Anyway the thing about high socks is that they're so versatile. You can wear them with basically anything; dresses, skirts, shorts, heels, sneaker etc etc etc.
3. Another thing I noticed they do is wear heaps of layers. Their outfit may consist of - a t-shirt, a dress, a cardigan/jumper and pants. Its like they're trying to wear one of every clothing item, and they can pull it off too cause they are just so cute!!
4. If you're looking for fake nails or fake eyelashes then Japan's the place to go. Honestly their nails are bordering on ridiculous. I don't know how they do anything while they're wearing them!
Wearing fake eyelashes seems to be the norm over there cause they wear them everyday. I don't know if their eyelashes are shorter than ours or something but they look really natural on them

5. One of my favourite looks is the cute school girl. Little plaid skirts, vests, big cardigans, bows and high socks or even leg warmers. The best part about it is that it's actually their school uniform, its not just a look that they're going for.


Well thats my little ramble about Japanese fashion. Oh and obviously when i say 'they' i dont mean every single Japanese person, just some of them, ruh reader ruh.

J- Outfit #4

I was given this oversized, grey, very ugly t-shirt, by my next host dad, because he works for the council over here in France, and likes to give away free council clothing to foreigners. I was actually really excited, because it gave me the oppurtunity to cut something up, without regrets:) I chopped the collar off, and cut a little V in the neckline for something interesting, then I slit the sides so I could tie them into knots to make the tee more fitted. And, of course, I rolled up the sleeves to hide the Conseil General logo. Its not high fashion, but at least its wearable. And it was a lot of fun. Gotta lobe DIY.
